Overview
When you sell an item that goes through a light pre-delivery step - sharpening, coating, grinding, finishing - AL Processing Charge keeps the revenue of that processing separate from the revenue of the item itself, automatically. You pick a processing type on the sales line; on release the app generates and assigns the matching Item Charge line for you. Same item code before and after, standard Business Central accounting, and a clear answer to "how profitable is each processing operation?"
Key features
- Configurable processing types - a dedicated setup list, each bound to a standard Item Charge with no custom posting code.
- One click on the line - tag any item line on quotes, orders, invoices, blanket and return orders; the setup's default price is proposed and stays overridable.
- Automatic charge on release - the Item Charge line is created, quantified and assigned, then self-heals if you change or clear the processing before posting.
- Two billing models - bill an item entirely as processing (customer-owned goods) or sell it and add the processing on top.
- Optional production dispatch - one Project Order per processing type, with the routing, BOM and self-consumption you configured.
Business benefits
- True margin per operation - item revenue and processing revenue sit on separate lines and posting setups.
- No SKU explosion - the item master stays single; no raw-vs-processed code sprawl.
- Audit-clean - everything posts through the standard Item Charge engine consultants already know.
Typical scenarios
- Tooling and abrasives - sell carbide cutters with a finishing treatment billed and produced separately.
- Distribution with value-add - track in-house finishing as its own revenue stream.
- Service-on-goods - process customer-owned material and bill only the work.
What makes it different
The processing is a property of the line, not of the item, so adding a treatment is a configuration change, never a master-data change. Production integration is opt-in, and the whole flow follows the document from quote to credit memo without rekeying. Certified on AppSource, Italian localization included.
