AL Catch Weight Management

AL Catch Weight Management brings variable-weight (catch weight) handling to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. You operate in a handling unit (pieces/cases) and price and post in an accounting unit (weight) on the actual weight, staying inside standard Business Central logic. On posting it generates Weight Ledger Entries linked to the Item Ledger Entries, for full weight traceability and shrinkage/yield analysis.

Key capabilities

• Dual unit of measure - a handling unit and an accounting unit, usually a weight, set on the item for sales, purchase and transfer and changeable on every line.
• Accounting quantity and price from the actual weight - computed from the handling quantity plus the actual net weight, and kept in step down to the quantities to ship, receive and invoice.
• Price from standard price lists - a temporary UoM swap lets the standard price calculation run on the accounting unit, with all standard events preserved and no custom pricing engine.
• Weigh page - capture weights per lot, serial, package and pallet, typed or read from a GS1-128 label via AL GS1; Weigh and Assign Lots captures the weight and assigns tracking in one step. Picking a lot proposes its unit weight by the rule of its item type: what is left of the lot, or its last weighing for goods that dry out.
• Weight checks at posting - for sales, purchases and transfers: no check, a weight required, or a weighing of the whole quantity posted.
• Weight on posting - net/gross weight on the Item Ledger Entries plus a Weight Ledger Entry per Item Application Entry, inbound linked to outbound, and a weight loss entry when a receipt is used up with weight still on the books.
• Full coverage - sales, purchase, transfer, production, inventory and warehouse, journals included, with bins that keep the weight of the goods weighed into them.

How it works

Define the accounting units of measure on the item; on a document, enter the quantity in the handling unit and capture the net weight, typed or from a GS1-128 label. The app computes the accounting quantity and the accounting price from the standard price lists; Weigh and Assign Lots captures the weight and assigns the tracking. On posting, the weight lands on the Item Ledger Entries and a Weight Ledger Entry is created for each application, ready for shrinkage/yield analysis.
